runes 01:30
the runes on your fingers make me think about the trees and every time you smile I see lavender and bees I don't know where we're going and I don't know what we'll see but I know that I'm happy when you're lying next to me you like my leather jacket and I like your muddy pants and I like how you insist that when there's music we must dance one day we biked to seward and it put me in a trance I think you know the feeling when you see so many plants we'll throw a folk punk festival and rowdy hardcore shows our friends can eat spaghetti as midnight comes and goes reading on the porch with you the orange sunset glows the evening breeze is warming because now we've made a home I turned the garden soil and we've got a load of seeds lets grow some fucking vegetables for all our veggie needs I don't know where we're going and I don't know what we'll see but I know that I'm happy when you're lying next to me I know that I'm happy when you're lying next to me

sometimes love is a salad with so much random shit I don't know quite how it'll make me feel but at the end of the day my belly is content with your sweet potatoes and kale at least four maybe six potatoes did we steal because that's how many fit in my coat no one would have eaten them a goddamn prison kitchen love the farmers fuck the cops that's how we role when I hold your hand it's just like growing peas a child again toes deep in the dirt lets spend the day outside build a compost play with fire I can sing but I don't know how to flirt I never thought food erotic but you make kale real hot I met you in a garden bed and though we didn't talk I thought each day I saw you pulling weeds that we would go together like carrots and peas

a moment 01:22
there's a moment every morning when I see you lying there asleep beneath our blankets tangled in your hair your face glows in the sunlight of the early morning sun breathing soft as ripples a creek I hear it run and I'll kiss you until you wake up to meet your blue gray eyes I'll kiss you until you wake up I can picture your blue grey eyes and I already miss them your body bare and warming legs intwined in mine I draw a little closer your hair still smells of pine we left the window open I taste the dewy breeze zucchinis in our garden growing as they please and i kiss you until you wake up to meet your blue gray eyes I kiss you until you wake up I can picture your blue grey eyes and I already miss them now the moment's past we dress and meet the day can't wait until tomorrow that's all that I can say

friends 00:43
you helped me fix my bike today the wheel it wasn't true you said helping me it cheered you up well that's what friends do you play your uke along with me and a little washboard too we'll sing to each other at bedlam next week because that's what friends do some mornings you make coffee for me others I brew for you sharing dreams til we're late for work because that's what friends do you let me sit and cry with you not something I've been able to do you know I've had a lot of friends but never a friend like you
5.
honey bee you come with me and I would go with you belgium france and germany with friends or just us two the squats will host us graciously but forests still we find I take a trail and sing along you know what's on my mind we dance together everywhere, everywhere we go I miss you ever show I see where I must dance alone you like my friends and I like yours our friends are all we need romantic thing a punk rock band just you wait and see you said you felt things when I play I feel things when you speak I'm thinking of you every day though you've only been gone a week If music brings us closer we might just never part I won't stop singing honey bee that's how I share my heart
6.
you take me back to the forest running barefoot through the brush so unfettered not a thorn dared to prick me reading all through august just because I cared to read I take in so much more with a summer breeze you take me back to the river even though you've never been we swim together in my mind there at dusk won't you help me leave this city I'll bring my uke if you sing too just the wind the crickets and us you take me back you take me back to childhood to dance without a care when you move like that I can't take my eyes off you my songs get more ridiculous and I know it's not the beer nothing makes me feel more than your poems no nothing makes me feel more than your poems except maybe your lips you take me back

true love 01:54
we moved into your apartment though you only had one bed shared everything the carrots weed and beer kept the cds spinning listening to local jazz because everything we need is right here see camping on the tracks is fun and scaring cops and shooting guns won't you come away with me? smash a bank or climb a tree because nothing says true love like anarchy then we found the murder mine for a veggie fueled resistance kale and sweet potatoes every night we'll build the revolution singing songs about our hair fuck neighbors we won't stop until we die she said make it irresistible so we sang til 2 am so drunk there was a lot we didn't do showed up at the youth jail and the cops arrested luke for romance and the protest z went too spent the day with legal team didn't even know his name a comrade of pure passion life and music the state won't know what hit them smashed a bottle on it's head and sing until the fire's down burned all prisons to the ground no more presidents or cops all we really need is us I don't care for monogamy because I am fond of being free and I'm in fucking love with all of you it's hot that you don't need the state or god to set the record straight let's build a house and grow all our own food because nothing says true love like anarchy

about

these songs are about hosting house shows, touring with punk rock bands, genderqueering, gardening, and falling in love. The year I wrote them, winter 2018- winter 2019, has been a trip and as life keeps moving I thought I would leave this here to capture some memories. This is dedicated to the geophagia collective, all the friends, punks and weirdos who brought the murder mine to life, and particularly mara, my partner in crime.
